Rangefire Integrated Networks
Acceptable Use Policy
Rangefire's network is a shared resource, operated for the benefit of its customers.
To that end, we have established an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) designed to ensure
fair access to the network by all users, and to prevent security and liability
problems that could affect overall connectivity.
The use of any Rangefire Internet connection by a Customer, the Customer's employees,
agents, or any party granted access to the Internet connection by the Customer:
- Must be for lawful purposes only;
- Must be in compliance with all policies and rules of any and all
other networks accessed or transited by traffic sent by the Customer
through the Rangefire network;
- Must not interfere with the operation of Rangefire or any Customer;
- Prohibits transmission of abusive or unsolicited commercial email (UCE),
such as messages posted to multiple news groups, mailing lists,
or email recipients, where the Member has no existing business
relationship (e.g., a paying customer), and the message distributes
information not specifically requested by the recipient or is not within
the content guidelines of the newsgroup or mailing list.
- Prohibits serving or distribution of sexually explicit materials,
by any means, including but not limited to email, newsgroups, Web pages,
FTP, Internet Relay Chat, audio, or video transmission, whether password
protected or not;
- Prohibits unauthorized scanning of other networks, either on or off the Rangefire
network, using network management software or TCP/IP tools, or any
activity that can be reasonably construed by another network
administrator as an attempt to inspect or breach the security of a network
not controlled by the Customer;
- Prohibits reselling or brokering of Rangefire Internet connectivity to non-Customers,
unless a written agreement for such reselling exists between Customer and Rangefire.
Customers may host Web or FTP sites of non-Customers on the
Customers own equipment, and may charge non-Customers for this service.
Rangefire is bound by the Acceptable Use Policies of its upstream providers,
Genuity,
GST Internet, and
Qwest Communications.
If we fail to enforce the
AUP requirements of our upstream providers, those providers will stop routing traffic for
Rangefire. Thus it is in the best interest of all Rangefire Customers that we require
compliance with our AUP.
If an Rangefire customer is found to be violating an Acceptable Use Policy Provision,
Rangefire Technical Support will attempt to contact the Customer to explain the violation.
If the Customer cannot be reached in a timely manner, Rangefire may need to temporarily
disconnect the Customer's Internet service until the matter can be resolved. In the event
of a second AUP violation of the same kind following a warning of violation, Rangefire
will disconnect the Customer and require that the Customer sign a written promise to
not repeat the violation before reconnection.
If the Customer refuses, or subsequently violates the written
promise, then Rangefire has no recourse but to permanently disconnect the Customer.
